Pop Culture Icons Vol. 1... Richard Hell

Richard Hell (born Richard Meyers; October 2, 1949) is an American singer, songwriter, bass guitarist, and writer.

Hell is probably best known as frontman for the early punk rock band Richard Hell & The Voidoids.

In 1975 Malcom McLaren took a trip from London to NYC during his brief time as Manager of The New York Dolls. During this trip, McLaren saw a performance of Richard Hell and his then band The Neon Boys at CBGB'S...McLaren was taken by Hell's fashion sense, skinny ripped jeans, long key chains worn on his belt , studded belts, and saftey pin acssecories... When McLaren Returned to London, He opened a clothes boutique called " Sex "...in 1977 he formed the Sex Pistols and the rest is punk rock and fashion history... Richard Hell's style of dress can still be seen 30 years from when it started. Nowadays, Rappers like Lil Wayne, Tyga, Jim Jones, Kanye West, and Pharrell, have brought the style he created back full circle...

As you can see... Richard Hell's fashion sense lives strong in today's pop culture.
