Rapper Lil Wayne sues song's producer 15 hours ago NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Rapper Lil Wayne is suing the producer of a song he performed that allegedly sampled another singer's work without permission. A lawsuit filed last year against Lil Wayne accuses him of copyright infringement, saying he failed to secure permission to sample folk singer Karma-Ann Swanepoel's song "Once" on his track "I Feel Like Dying." A lawsuit filed last week by the rapper's lawyers says Rebel Rock Productions Inc., of Coconut Creek, Fla., produced "I Feel Like Dying" and was responsible for obtaining any necessary licensing agreements. Rebel Rock hasn't responded to Lil Wayne's claims and doesn't have a lawyer named in court records. A telephone number listed for the company has been disconnected. While online retailers like iTunes hold a comfortable position in consumer purchases, physical retail stores such as Wal-Mart and Best Buy are attempting to figure out new ways to offset decreased sales. According to the New York Post, Best Buy has high hopes for the move as 100 stores across the country had successful test runs in adding vinyl merchandise to their shelves. This experiment coincides with some staggering numbers concerning a potential rebirth in vinyl sales; in 2007, vinyl purchases were up 15% from the year before, and 2008 saw an increase of 89%, or roughly 1.9 million vinyl purchases. According to federal documents, Gonzalez’s 6 year drug empire has allegedly moved 100 pounds of cocaine and over a ton of marijuana through Hampton Roads, Virginia since 2003. Authorities suspect Gonzalez imported the drugs from Panama Florida, California, and Arizona. The 82-count indictment states that Gonzalez laundered drug money through several front businesses, including the Clipse’s booking agency Soul Providers Management. The federal document elaborates that the defendants painted “themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.” In addition, Gonzalez is accused of making several kingpin transactions, such as purchasing 10 kilos cocaine for $200,000, and 625 pounds of ma

The network, known for its conservative news slant, is the lone broadcast channel that turned down President Obama's request for the time. Tomorrow night's speech will be the third prime time news conference in Obama's 100-day presidency. It also marks the first time a broadcast network has refused his request. Monroe seeks $22 million in damages and punitive penalties against the artist, whose real name is Calvin Broadus. As a result of the ruling, the documentary can now be released globally. Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael S. Mink denied Wayne's request for a preliminary injunction this week. QD3 executive Quincy Jones III said the ruling frees his company to seek distribution of the film. "We're very pleased with the court's decision," Jones said. (April 22, 2009) The Stockholm Jazz Festival, one of Sweden's biggest music events, has announced that Lauryn Hill will return as headline act for its 2009 concert in July. Festival spokesman Gunnar Lagerman says the R&B singer will perform at the five-day event as part of a 10-stop European tour, reports the Associated Press, and mark the second time the former Fugees singer has headlined the festival. Other artists lined up for the July 15-19 event include tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins and Brazilian singer Gilberto Gil. In 2008, the producer had his 10 million dollar estate foreclosed and was also hit for back child support payments by his child's mother. The woes continued when Storch was charged with Grand Theft Auto for allegedly failing to return a leased Bentley to the dealer. Storch posted bail shortly after being arrested. According to reports, the Bentley was supposed to be returned to the owner in 2008, thus violating the terms. Atlas leasing company said that the producer's failure to return the vehicle caused them 65,000 dollars in revenue and during the period in contention, Storch was not paying for the car either.
